Marjorie Virginia McBride

Marjorie Virginia McBride, age 82, a longtime resident of Ocean Shores, died on September 23, 2012, at her home in Ocean Shores. Mrs. McBride was born on March 27, 1930, in Spokane, WA to Willis Austin and Julia Cordelia (Bosshardt) White. As an infant, she moved with the family to Lafayette, Oregon.

After living in the McMinnville, Oregon area, she moved to Ocean Shores in 1967. She worked as a receptionist for Wendell West, then as a realtor in the 1970’s. In 1982, she and her daughter opened Gallery Marjuli in Ocean Shores which remained open until January of this year. Her love of art also inspired her to found the Associated Arts of Ocean Shores.

She was the first woman to receive the person of the year award in Ocean Shores.

On September 27, 1971, she and Charles Wallace “Wally” McBride were married in Pacific Beach.

She was a very family oriented woman and loved taking extended family trips.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Parker Powell of Vancouver, WA and Martin Powell of Simpsonville, SC; a daughter Julia Bitar of Hoquiam; two grandchildren, Paris Powell of Ridgefield, WA and Paul Bitar of Olympia; a sister, Joyce Anderson of Redmond, Oregon and a step brother, Terry Keffer of Camano Island, WA. Her husband Wally McBride died on March 4, 2005.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Shilo Inn at Ocean Shores.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Associated Arts of Ocean Shores, P.O. Box 241, Ocean Shores, WA 98569; or to the Ocean Shores Fire Department, 585 Pt Brown Avenue, Ocean Shores, WA 98569.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
